Question:
The default gateway is not available?
2013-11-14 14:40:04 UTC
For about 2-3 weeks my Internet has been flickering on and off, saying limited access or just disconnecting. Usually I can fix this by reconnecting, which solves it for a limited time. However, I would like a more permanent fix to this, so I am asking for help. (Next part is REALLY Long!)

This is the information that the 'Windows Network Diagnostics' is giving me:

Issues found:
The default gateway is not available Fixed *Checkmark*
Reset the "Wireless Network Connection 2" adapter Completed
Investigate router or broadband modem issues Not run

Issues found

The default gateway is not available Fixed *Checkmark*

The default gateway is a device that connects a local network or computer to the Internet. A broadband modem or router is usually the default gateway.

The whole report would not fit, so I put in as much as I could.
Also, my router/modem is a Motorola SURFBoard SBG6580
I use an external adapter to connect to said router
This is also happening to my laptop (on the same network)

Thank you for your help!

Your "default gateway" is your router. Switch off your router for 10 mins then switch it back on and this should work if the problem still occurs the best thing to do is ring up your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and in the mean time move your device closer to the router.

1. power-cycle the router. let it boot for 5-30min.

2.upgrade the firmware on the router to latest version.

3.if the modem has upgradable firmware, do that.

4.keep networking equipment out of the sun. computer stuff doesn't like heat, they generate enough of their own and they like to stay cool (preferably less than 80°F)...

Maybe if you change your ISP and/or modem.I don't know any other way ,sorry.
