what do these virgin router events mean and how can I prevent them?

I kinda ventured into the place where every technologically curious 17 year old should NEVER go, which is in this case, the router gateway, and I found have these critical events in my router log and I kinda want to know what they mean now.
it's a Netgear VMDG280 on virgin media 20mb broadband.

these are the events given.

DHCP FAILED - Requested Info not supported.
Started Unicast Maintenance Ranging - No Response received
DHCP REBIND sent - Invalid DHCP option
No Ranging Response received - T3 time-out

what do they mean?

so I'm going to guess these problems are solvable and/or preventable, and I would like to learn how, to solve and/or prevent these from happening so we don't have to keep calling virgin tech support to endure their wonderful hold music! :P

I'm quite computer literate, but I'm always looking to expand my knowledge :)

DHCP is basically the software that assigns your IP address.

It could be that for whatever reason the router was unable to get an IP address at that moment in time. If you can still connect to the internet it shows that your router has successfully connected to the internet.

These are just status messages, nothing to worry about unless you can't actually connect to anything.

hi,

Follow these steps:-

1. Check to see if there's a known fault with the service

2. Try to connect to another web site

3. Check and restart your computer and broadband equipment

4. Check the lights

5. Are you using wireless?

6. Check your computer's IP address

thanks

these events happen often on everybody's modems basically when you visit a site and it doesn't load or you have log in problems they create those events and you can't do anything to stop them from happening trust me don't and i mean don't go changing your modem settings unless you want hours of trouble getting it to work again.the only you can change if your wireless is go into advanced and change your mbps output 54 lowest 150 something middle rage and its 344 mbps is the maximum output
