Is there a command code that displays the attached devices on a router, I need the actual name of the device to be shown and not just the IP. I got the "arp -a" but that displays alot of other stuff aswell and not just attached devices. It also doesn't display names.

First off, what type of router is it?

I assume you are talking about a domestic wireless type router? The commands will vary from router to router. The challenging bit is getting the name of the attached device. If the router is the DHCP serverthen it may record the name from that, so you could try looking at DHCP info on the router.

show cdp neigh only works on a cisco network if you have that even turned on...it can be a security hole!! LOL.

LOVE THAT ANSWER THOUGH!!!! HAHAHA

there are many commands (in windows, not cisco!) that work with the net command.

open cmd and type net ?

I use net session all the time in my domain for that information.

Hope that's some help.

Sometimes not only arp-a (which is reverse ARP) try ping -a IP

sometimes that'll give the name and IP...not always though.

Good luck mate!

show cdp neighbor

Scharf, you should know the only devices connected to a router should be

1) Other routers

2) Switches

Thanks for playing, though.
