I have a VERY,VERY good brand new computer. I have a 108 mbps wireless router hooked up to it, which gives internet on my 2 laptops. I purchased comcast high speed internet about 3 weeks ago and for the first 2 weeks its been the fastest internet connecton I have ever seen.
this whole week, when I load pages on firefox they load very slow although Im sure I have a good connection beacuse I did a speedtest 5 minutes ago and I got: 4454kbps download speed, and 1511kbps upload speed. I Have norton 360 and im sure im virus free.

EDIT: first try rebooting your router by unplugging the power supply waiting about 5 minutes then plugging it back in - that's worked for me sometimes.

try plugging into your router with an ethernet cable and disabling the wireless access in your router settings. It's possible one of your neighbors is using your connection for free internet - especially if you're using WEP security. do some research and see what other kinds of encryptions your wireless router supports and which ones are most secure (anything that goes based on a MAC address instead of a key is usually best - as they are unique to your specific computers).

also it couldn't hurt to download avast and run a spyware/virus check (the home version is entirely free). Also make sure you're not downloading anything.

well, there are several possibilities of why your blazing fast internet connection is as slow as a turtle. 4454 kbps sounds about right for like 15 mbps. Try tweaking firefox type in about:config into your address bar filter using the keyword network and go to

network.http.pipelining make that true

network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server make that value 6

network.http.max-connections-per-server make that 10

network.http.max-connections make that like 30 or 40

close out

next, you can download tcp optimzier and use the optimized settings dont go advanced. Select your supposed internet speed what comcast ig giving you and then click optimize restart

hope this helps

also, make sure your router is properly connected and that there is no intrusion such as a blocked signal from an object or even an intruder on your network that may be stealing internet

It does not get slower, however the connection is divided. For illustration, in case your max down load pace is 500kbps and one pc is downloading at 500kbps whilst you start a down load at the moment pc, the bandwidth will now be cut up among the 2. Assuming that each faraway servers have the identical upstream ability, each laptops must down load at, roughly, 250kbps. Of direction, there are different elements that impact down load cost, so it may not be such an lightly divided difficulty. In reality, the department would, in train, figure out extra like 490kbps and 10kbps.
