From my internet provider, the speed of my internet is up to 1.5Mbps..... I wanna buy a wireless router so I can surf internet in my other bedroom... I searched the internet... it has a lot of choices of router... the latest one wireless N routers or some so-called speedbooster, as it claims, are up to 100 - 300Mbps. Does it matter to me what router I buy as my internet provider is only up to 1.5Mbps? For example, if i get a wireless N, will I get 300Mbps or 1.5Mbs? Thanks.

Your internet speed is determined by your ISP and not the equipment you purchase, unless the equipment you purchase is slower then your internet speed, like have a 6Mb/s internet connection and using 1.5Mb/s Home RF 1.0 equipment.

The reason people purchase faster and faster wireless networking equipment is not for internet speeds, it for networking speeds. Sending large files between computers, playing LAN games and stuff like that.

Don't even bother looking at the "WRT-54GS" Routers, or similar versions by Belkin, Netgear, D-Link, etc. They are a waste of time, for one thing they are around $80, when you can pick a Linksys 54G (which I would recommend) for $45-50. Not only that but what they don't make very explicit on the box is that you also need a "Speedbooster" card for your laptop, and/or desktop. AND all other computers on the network. Each one costs about $35 bucks! I.E. if your friend comes over and uses his laptop, you're $80 router and $35 upgrade card won't matter any for him and they'll be useless! And all this for "Up To" 20% speed increase! NOT WORTH IT!

Everything you own, even the worst Wireless Adapter (around 11Mbs) is far beyond the fastest internet connection available to the public. Your router, wires, adapter, or any other piece will have no effect on the speed of your internet. The only way to get more bandwidth is to purchase a premium package from your ISP. 6Mbs is usually about the max you can get from most ISP's for around $99 a month usually.

You internet speed is determined by your ISP period.

Your local speed is determined by your router for file sharing between machines etc.

An N router will only increase your local file sharing speed so if all you are concerned with is the INTERNET speed even the oldest 802.11b units will work just fine.

your internet connection speed is regulated by your ISP. if they say you get 1.5Mbps, then thats the most you will get.
