you need to talk to the person(s) in charge of the wireless access in your complex and find out how far you are from the closest access point (AP) and if they are using version b or g. You will get a better connection using g as it has a larger WLAN cell radius.

You might have been booted. Ask whoever's running the network to check your IP address. Some large wireless networks, like in hotels, will kick you for a set amount of time, or even indefinetely, if you take up too much bandwidth or try to maintain too many IP connections.

Happened to me with BitTorrent (an abuser of both) in a Continental. Had to call support to get the guy there to take me off the blacklist.

it sounds like you are piggybacking off someone else's connection. manually configure the wireless connection to the strongest signal available at the time with open security. Getting your own wifi line will give you 100% connectivity.

I have noticed, sometimes, that a laptop will not always choose the best wireless signal. If you have used various signals, your wireless network adapter might be set to search for a particular signal with a particular SSID. If it detects this one (even if it is very faint), it will probably try to connect to and use it. I have had to go to the list of wireless signals and SSID's and prioritize them so that it tries connect to the correct one first before trying some of the other ones.

You can find these settings (if Windows is controlling your configuration) by giong to the Control Panel, Network Connections, right-click on the correct connection, go to the Wireless Networks tab, and see if your SSID's are in the correct order. Make sure the one you are wanting to connect to is located at the top of the list. If not, select it, and click the 'move up' button until it is.

Good luck,

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

First, you need a WLAN client PC card for your laptop that has the option of hooking an external directional antenna to it. The antenna should have at least 20 dB power gain. Next, you need software for your laptop that can detect the access points (APs) in your area when you point the directional antenna at them. They may not register on your Windows wireless connection list of available APs if they are encrypted etc. Check for the "AirSnare" freeware utility software below before you buy the new WLAN client card with external antenna connector on it. SomeWLAN cards won't work with AirSnare or NetStumbler.

For the connection that says" low connectivity " your too far from the router, a wireless router is only good for at most 1500 feet, but usually less then that. Is the connection provided by the complex? Or is it just one of your neighbors? I am guessing its neighbors router that your connecting to, so your probably out of luck unless a neighbor closer to you gets a wireless router. But even if someone gets one that is close enough to you they may have security enabled which wont allow you to connect. For the other connection they may have a MAC allow list, if they don't enter the MAC id of your computer in you wont be able to stay connected. Best bet is to setup your own wireless network.

For the additional information that was added, I'd say your equipment and hardware/software are all fine. Your just trying to connect to a wireless connection that is weak, when your far from a connection the connection may work from time to time, but wont be reliable. But say you were getting a very stong single but still not able to connect, it could be the secuirty settings on the router. Or if the signle is strong and you can connect only sometimes it could be the software in the router. The router has software built in, and if that was never updated that can cause connection problems. I have a wireless router that is like 10' away from my computer, somedays I could connect somedays I could not, after updating the software in my router, I connect every time now with out a problem, so maybe thats the case in your situation. A lot of people that have wireless routers dont realize that there is sofware built into the router, and that it may need to be updated. Since your able to connect to it sometimes that maybe the case, because ussually the people that dont know about upgrading their router software are also the ones that dont know how to secure their networks from others trying to connect. There is not really anything on your end that you can really do. My only suggestions would be try getting an amplified attenna for your laptop...If your wireless is built into you laptop that may not be an option. Another thing you can try is buying a signle repeater, that basicly grabs a weak single and repeats it....but if the signle is too weak that might not work either.
