Networking a wireless notebook with a PC; PC doesn't see notebook?

Question

I have a Windows XP PC connected to the internet thru a Linksys wireless router. I have set up the router to work just fine, giving internet access to both the PC and the Vista notebook.

The notebook is connected to the PC and I can view files, access printers, etc from the notebook. I am unable to see the notebook from the PC. McAfee can see the notebook and monitor it's status. I've checked to make sure the workgroup names are the same for both computers, but something is missing somewhere. Laptop can ping the PC, but PC cannot ping the laptop.
Help if you can.

Could be one of a number of things

Are there shared folders on laptop ? If not it doesn't show as a network device as such



Have you checked the firewall settings on both ends, took me forever to get ZoneAlarm to allow me to print from laptop to desktop's shared printer.



If PING fails, try TRACERT then the lappy IP, see where it gets to, if it doesn't get as far as the IP for router it's an issue on desktop, if it does it's an issue at leptop end (usually)

looks like a firewall issue to me. check out the firewall of your laptop. this might be dropping connections from your local network other than the router.

it's the firewall on one of the machines. you have to set permissions to allow them to talk.

no longer recognizing your USB adaptor or the router? attempt installation your computing device as a residential gateway to work out if the relationship works, you may could desire to adjust the DNS and subnet specific on your Optus connection. i could call them and ask.
