You acturally can. I once run 2 OS jointly(in reality I run 3 OS jointly if including my actural OS), an XP and a 2003 in my a million.5GB ram. there is not any project. yet I convince you to advance your digital ram in case of the crash of ram and turn down ineffective classes even as u use the vmware.

Hi,

You can install vmware on Windows XP SP2 with 1GB ram and able to install Linux on same. No problem for this task.

Because When you are installing vmware that time you should need to partition of your RAM that time you can provide 512 MB ram to Guest operating system(Linux) of Vmware and spare rest of RAM to actual operating system(Windows XP).

But when you want to install Oracle on Linux (guest operating system) of vmware that time you will get problem of slowness because at least 1 GB ram requires for installation.

Means your both system will be affect heavy slowness. If you are able to expand your RAM then it is very good but if you haven't any option then you should need to do following.

As per installation process of vmware, kindly partition your RAM with 512 as given instruction above. When you are going to install that time spare SWAP space at least 3GB and finish your Linux installation. After that carry out installation of Oracle 11g. It will install.

You will get problem of system slowness and oracle 11g slowness. But if you don't want to expand RAM then you should need to bare it.

All the Best.

Thanks and regards,

You will need to upgrade you PC, just increase your RAM to 3/4GB because with virtual machines and db's lot of RAM will be needed.

You will need to allocate at least 1GB RAM for Virtual Machine, most probably you will be installing Oracle Enterprise Linux on VM to run DB.

First off, you don't need 1GB ram for VMware, I run multiple things at once with only 512 ram, it is all in the settings, the Swap file settings in Host OS, (XP in this case) as well as what is running in the host OS at the time VMware is running as well. Best bet is to close out everything that is non-vital in host OS, have swap file set as minimum 1.5X Ram (1024 * 1.5 = 1536MB) and max of 3X (1024 * 3 = 3072), some systems with fast IDE or other drive interfaces can get away with 6X Ram Swap Max. This will greatly improve performance. Also be sure that your Virtual hard drive does not become fragmented (the actual file not files within it) as this will greatly slow performance as well.

Most I've run is 2 XP's (3 counting Host) and a Win 98 all at once with only 512 RAM, and it ran rather smoothly with these settings used.
