I Have A Dell Laptop, And I'm Trying To Figure Out What My Domain Name Is. The Reason I Need It, Is So I Can Connect To My Laptop Using The Remote Desktop Connection Tool. I Know My Computer Name, The Username, And Password However I Just Can't Find The Domain Name. Some Other Windows Computers I've Looked At Show The Domain Name In The Computer Properties, Along With The Computer Name And The Description. However, Mine Doesn't It Only Shows The Workgroup, Computer Name, And The Description. I'm Running Windows XP On Both Computers I'm Using In The Process. I Think They Might Have Different Service Packs Though. So, How Do I Find My Domain Name, Thanks Again.

If your laptop is only showing a Workgroup name, your laptop is not configured to work in a Domain. To connect to a domain the PCs must be running XP Pro or Media Center Edition.

If your laptop is a member of a workgroup, then it does not have a domain.

If you want to connect to it with remote desktop, then use either its hostname or its IP address.

If you are a home user then most likely you are not on a Domain, you don't need a domain name, if this is a work computer then you will need to get the domain name from your IT administrator

If you are in workgroup mode (which it sounds like you are), you will not see a "Domain Name" ..

You might just want to connect using the IP, you can get the IP by going Start --> Run --> CMD [Enter] and type ipconfig

Not all computers have a domain name: use your IP address instead. (To find your IP address, go to your command prompt and type in "IP config". It will give you a bunch of numbers, one of which will be the IP address.)
