How to crack/find out the administrator/user password? any free downloads :/ ?

Question

I kinda logged out of my MAC laptop. Now I forgot what the password was :/ I had to create a new one.. but Idk how I can recover the password!! People told me to try Ophcrack for MAC but Idk if there is any risks. I don't wanna mess up again :( please tell me how to recover my MACs password... I have stuff in there I wouldn't find no where else. Like a picture of my daddy (who is now dead)

If your files are encrypted using file vault your are just out of luck. I am not aware of any way to break this encryption. But if you have just a regular account, you can easily reset any password by booting into single user mode and running a few commands from the command line:



* Hold CMD+S when turning on the laptop to get into single user mode

* Make file system writeable: "mount -uw /"

* Start directory server: "launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist"

* Change password "dscl . -passwd /Users/jack rabbit"

* Restart your computer: "reboot"



In the above example I assumed your short username would be "jack" and chose "rabbit" as your new password. You should replace those with your real username and a password of your choice.
