Step 1

Download the Remote Desktop software from Microsoft. In most cases, you don't need to download the software, but older versions of Windows XP may not have it included. Once the installation is downloaded, install it on the computer.

Step 2

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel" on the sever machine. Once the Control Panel is opened, click the "Performance and Maintenance" link. From this window, click the "System" icon. A dialog window opens where you will setup Remote Desktop.

Step 3

Click the "Remote" tab. Select the "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer" option and click "Ok." In the Control Panel, click the "Security" link. This opens a dialog box where you will allow users to bypass the firewall for the connection. Click the "Exceptions" tab and select "Remote Desktop." Press "Ok." The server machine is now ready to accept remote connections.

Step 4

Click the Windows "Start" button, select "Programs," and then select "Accessories" on the client machine. Click the "Communications" menu item and then click the "Remote Desktop Connection" option. This opens a window where you connect to the remote machine.

Step 5

Enter the name of the server computer. This name is found by holding down Ctrl+Alt+Del on the keyboard of the server computer. The name of the computer is shown in the dialog window. Once this name is entered on the client machine, click the "Connect" button. A window opens with the login and password dialog window on the remote machine. Once you login, you can remote control the computer and use its functions.

Axence nVision monitors servers, applications, routers and user activity. It collects hardware and software inventory; provides alerting and reports.

Using either TCP/IP, SNMP or Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), nVision can identify and monitor:

Mail, web servers and URLs

TCP/IP and Windows services (with the ability to restart failed services)

Applications health and performance (MS SQL, Exchange, etc.)

Switches and routers: interface status, network traffic and nodes connected to every port

Windows and SNMP device performance - such as CPU utilization, memory, disk space, network transfers, etc.

The network is automatically discovered and presented on interactive graphical map.

nVision automatically collects node hardware and software information: model, CPU, memory, main board, drives, cards, etc., installed applications and Windows updates. It allows license usage auditing and verification. It will also alert you in case of a program installation or any configuration change on a remote node. Optional agents can monitor user activity: user activity/inactivity time, application usage, visited web pages. The agent provides also workstation remote control.

The program provides a wide range of alerts and reports: real-time and historical charts, system & application performance, service and host availability, interface traffic and utilization, inventory, user activity.
