Things to be observed to start a cyber/net/internet cafe.

1) A good ISP with a prompt service staff.

2) Proper installation of computers, and cabling.

3) A person who can handle hardware problems as they occur, if you do not have a AMC with the company you purchased computers from.

4) Licensed windows software on each computer.

5) Antivirus program. (You get windows defender as an antispyware, and windows built in firewall, plus automatic updates of windows if you have licensed copies of windows)

6) Perhaps you will need a internet cafe management software, if you are not planning to keep manual records of transaction.

7) It is advisable to run all computers in a limited user account, and not in an administrative account. It will be better if you disable task manager and registry tools on all computers, so that your computers will be safe from harmful system changes done by malware during constant internet use.

8) Disable Autocomplete on each computer, so that users login names and passwords are not stored in the browser.

9) Set your browser to empty cache as soon as the browser closes, and set the internet history to be kept to zero.

The best way to look at it is that you would need in an internet cafe exactly the same software/hardware that you need at home. That is assuming that you wish to provide lots of standalone pc's You would also need an ADSL internet connection at least, cable might be even better with a router to share that connection

If you are only providing the access and not the computers you should only need a ADSL or cable connection and a wireless router.

If you are setting up computers in your shop I would run a proxy server to limit the access and bandwidth for each computer. If you can run Mac (The only time I would recommend one) or a live version of linux, like ubuntu, Knoppix, Puppy, DSL (Damn Small Linux). You can run them without a hard drive and rebooting resets them. I would recommend Puppy Linux Multi-session.

You need an ISP (Internet Service Provider). The ISP wire enters your building to a ROUTER. That router then sends the signal to your client's computers (hard wire with Ethernet or Wireless).

Your choice if you offer computers or expect your customers to bring thier own laptop.

That's it. Now get the coffee started!

Install a good browser like Firefox. Use good Spywares like Ad-Aware or AVG anti-spyware. Install AVG virus scanner or Kaspersky.

In terms of Hardware configuration, a system with a normal speed with good RAM will be alright.

But before all of them you need a good internet connection with good speed and get your systems networked or Wi-fied.
