How to change from a static ip to a dynamic ip?

The ISP I have doesn't work well if you have a static ip, and when I go type "cmd" and the DOH box pops up I typed "ipconfig /all" to check if the DHCP was enabled. It said no. I went and made my internet protocol version 4 and 6 and changed them both to obtain automatically. I have made sure my router (Netgear WNDR3300) was connected dynamically (which is was). My DHCP still isn't enabled!!! Can anyone offer some advice on how to fix it? Windows 7 Ultimate and I have restarted after making changes. I have never done anything to get a static ip yet it says I have one. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated!!!

Your ISP DHCP and router DHCP are totally unrelated. You will only get dynamic addressing from an ISP unless you subscribe to static and you MUST leave it dynamic. Even if you set the IP you currently have, you can lose your connection if another machine picks up that address and then the ISP blocks any other machine requesting it. For the router side, log in to it and there is a section in LAN settings for DHCP. Normally this is set on by default. There is usually a standard set of addresses loaded, and then an option to set a different pool of addresses if required. You are better to set it to default, and make sure the DHCP server check box is on. Manually setting it will prevent it starting is you choose an incorrect range or subnet mask, or it is set to a public range, especially if the range is within the same subnet as the ISP mask. On your machine you just need to do what you have, set everything to auto.

If you went in your network and sharing center and made sure that both dns and IP address are set to get ip address automatically and when you do your ipconfig /all and displays a static IP again then your tcp/ip might be corrupted...or windows ?? well microsoft hates you so follow this and it will reset your tcp/ip to it's original state (which would be in dhcp mode)

in command prompt (run as administrator or it wont work) type this:

netsh int ip reset log.txt

then

netsh winsock reset catalog

then reboot your computer and it's set to dhcp.

Note: if you want a static IP address check out dyndns.org

You know all these settings are in your router they must be enabled in the router not in windows. Unless you specificaly ordered a static IP address then it is dynamic IP addressing. I don't lnow what is telling you this, if it is your router then it probably was setup wrong and that is why your not getting the results your expecting, I hope this has been of use to you.

You Must Go To Your Routers Setting

Mine Will Work

Then Go to Your DHCP Settings. . . .
