A wireless router is a device that connects to your modem and creates a WiFi signal.

If you only have a desktop computer you don't need it. If you have a wireless device like a laptop computer, the router will route the signal to the laptop. The router should have an install disc that will lead you through the installation procedure. If not, just run a cable from your modem to it and unplug your modem for ten seconds and plug it back in. It will probably install itself. If this doesn't work, go to the router manufacturer's website for help.

A router allows you to have two or more devices connected to the Internet through your modem at the same time. The wireless part = wifi, means you don't need a wire to connect to it, but you do need devices (iPhone, iPad, Android phone/table, laptop) that also support wifi.

The router connects to the modem via a wire. Read the manual.

Is this a cable or DSl broadband connection? Is the router DSL or cable? Is your modem a USB modem or does it have a network connection? A wireless router is used to provide wireless signal for people to connect their laptops, phones and other mobile devices to without needing ot use cables.

It just converted the output from the modem (wired or wireless) to wi-fi signal so that you can browse using wi-fi. In some cases, modem & wi-fi router are integrated into single device.

A wireless router is a device that performs the functions of a router but also includes the functions of a wireless access point. It is commonly used to provide access to the Internet or a computer network. It does not require a wired link, as the connection is made wirelessly, via radio waves.
