Question:
Why can't my computer find my other computer on the network?

The computers in my house are networked together over the internet connection. All the computers are windows vista except the backup which is running XP. For some reason my computer (which is running vista btw) can't seem to detect the backup computer when I go to "Network". I have file sharing turned on and I can detect all the other computers in the office. The other computers have no problem detecting me and the backup computer but for some reason my workstation just doesn't seem to think it exists.

Any recommendations on how I can resolve this?

Probably easiest to run the Netwrk Setup Wizard on the missing machine.

Just make sure you choose the same workgroup name as the other PCs.

Its in the Network and SHaring Center and is called "set up a new connection or network".

That should sort it out quicker than lots of manual checking and fiddling.

Your computer will only see "global" files on the network.

You have to make the files seen by calling them Shared

to allow the other computers to see them.

It could be the router that is missing you...
