In addition to having file sharing enabled and the workgroup set, with Win 7 you have to set the network to PRIVATE/HOME or you won't connect to any other computer! Check the Network and Sharing center, if the conneciton type says "PUBLIC" you have to change it to "PRIVATE" to share files and connect to other computers... not very well documented but that is the fact that keeps most people from being able to setup a local network. (Yours may say "Home Network" if you are set to the private type connection) The same applies to Vista computers as well. All computers should have different names, same workgroup name, same "allowed" local connections, and shares allowed. (Passworded shares should only be done once your system is connected and working, then go back a password protect those that need the protection.)

Networking fundamentals -- All computers MUST be part of the Workgroup (Common Name like MSHOME, or WORKGROUP, or whatever you choose to call it), AND...although you can SEE the other drives, your ACCESS to them is limited by the Permission given. If this is a private network and no concerns about outside hacking, simply right-click on the drive icon (on the computer you wish to have its drive accessed) and choose "Sharing" -- Set it up as a shared drive.

Set up workgroup in all comps on network. Make sure all comps are running windows 7. If you want folder or drive to be shared, right click on folder or drive and click on sharing. Follow prompts.
