my Internet comes into may parents house which is about 400ft from my house. my parents have 2 PCs hooked to a router up there and then there is 1 Ethernet wire that runs underground out to my place to hook up my desktop PC. well my desktop is waiting for repairs so we bought a laptop (for hubby on the road) and a wireless router. right now i have it hooked up with the ethernet that cames out of the wired router (router up 2 parents house hooked 2 300ft of ethernet cable) comes into the wireless router out here, into the slot that says internet on the back of the wireless router. Does this sound right or should i change something. Everything works fine except receiving mail from my ISP. it will go for a little while then stop. I dont get all my mail have to keep going to ISP website to delete off what has came threw. frankly im sick of it . Someone PLZ help.

Yes the wiring is right. But you should know some things.

1) the maximum distance for an Ethernet cable under "ideal" conditions is 100 meters (about 333 feet).

2) a wireless device has a significant limit on range - I don't think you can get 100' out of it except outside - inside - more like 50'.

3) You could plug the laptop into the same wire as the desktop was.

4) You could get a cheap little bridge ($29) switch - like a 4 port Linksys - and use the uplink port (5) to connect the existing wire - and then effectively you can run another 100m off one of the other ports. The little switch box will effectively act as a repeater.

5) Your wireless is acting sort of like #4 above, but I think your signal is just too weak.

particular, it fairly is executed inspite of the undeniable fact that it based the router you have you are going to be able to come accross a sort of issues. by utilizing issues I mean that in case you do not have DHCP working on the router, the 2nd you plug interior the router there wont be any community verbal replace. If DHCP is disabled you may desire to establish an IP address on the under pressure router's interface, and on the instantaneous router's interface. you moreover mght might desire to connect the two routers with a go-over cable. in case you have a Netgear or Linsys router (or any undemanding router) they'll in many cases be a router/change. this potential that each and each interface is almost a change port, and no rely what interface you connect the under pressure router to on the instantaneous router it is going to all join the comparable LAN community. It additionally enables you to apply a common community (ethernet) cable. hence you pick to head to the website of the instantaneous router and supply it an IP address for the LAN section, that may in many cases be executed interior the DHCP web site or section. merely verify that in spite of you do does not mess with what your IT setup. in case you're area of IT, then verify which you do not shrink to rubble what you have executed. i'm hoping this enables.

sounds like it's plugged in right. try using a Ethernet wire from the wireless router to the laptop to retrieve your e-mail. this will eliminate wireless issues. if it works better, go back on wireless, and try the laptop in different areas until you get a better signal. if it doesn't work it could be your ISP's mail server having issues.

Your mail client probably just needs to be configured with a longer server timeout period. The default timeout for Outlook and Outlook Express is not very long. You need to go into the mail client options and increase the timeout period. You should be able to easily do a Google search to find out how to increase the server timeout for your mail client. Good luck.
