Right click on the folder that you dont wish to share and go to properties. Select the 'sharing' tab and mark - do not share this folder.

The answer to this question depends very heavily on what version of windows you and the computer accessing the folder are running.

Windows file and printer sharing uses CIFS to allow access to a folder. CIFS puts an Access Control List (ACL) on the file or folder being protected. You can limit the accounts on a windows domain easily. If this is a home network or just 2 computers on the same network with no other relationship, you will have to create an account on your computer that the other user can have the username and password to and then grant permissions to that folder to that user.

Some versions of windows don't play well with each other if the person viewing it has a different version than your computer.

Shared folders will inherit the password of the consumer account that is sharing them. once you've a password on your consumer account, the shared folders ought to also require a similar consumer call and password to get appropriate of entry to them. that is authentic of XP professional and Media center version, yet i'm not positive about XP domicile.

If you're using Windows 2000, or XP, right-click the folder and select "Encrypt". You can assign a password at that point.

In folder properties, under security tab, you can add and define the role of users who can access this folder, under LAN environment.

It depends what operating system you are using. With windows xp home edition you cannot pw protect shared folders.
