Buy the one with wi-fi built in and make sure it has a lan socket as well that way you have choices later on. What the lan part means it that computer will have a card built in so that you can plug an ethernet cable into it and then into a router or cable modem for internet access. The wi-fi part is a built in wireless unit that can connect to a wireless router you have or at say, a coffee shop or library, for internet access. You can also use a usb wireless unit to get internet. Its a little thing that might look like a thumbdrive that you plug into a usb port on your laptop giving you one other way to have a wireless (wi-fi) connection to a router or access point as they are typically called.

THey ae basically the same...

Wireless LAN - is where you set up your own wireless network lik ethis. You can get a wireless router...hook your intrnet to it and broadcast it to other pc's in your house. Some deslops and laptops have a wi-fi card and with Windows you can use some models to create a wifi hotspot...same as a WLAN. Here you create your own passwords for access.

Wi-FI - Just means you are using someone else wifi to get online like at many cafe's...but they ahve to supply you with passwords if they are locked...

WIFI -s a service & WLAN - is application which uses the wifi/wimax service

Wireless lan is incomplete without internet ...subscribe either for wifi/wimax or wired Internet ie:broadband
