Okay, I've looked this up enough to make me really mad already. Please, use simple terms and I will try to say what I can't do already.
We just got wireless. YAY!! I found the WEP key and typed it into my laptop, to get internet and such from my room while the router is in the living room.
It has EXCELLENT signal strength but Limited or No Connectivity.
I CANNOT Go to Control Panel--Internet and Connectivity...thing--blah, blah, blah to Manage Internet Options. I haven't seen a single link or button to that.
It is a wireless router.
HP laptop with Windows XP.
It says it cannot renew my IP address.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help and use SIMPLE terms...thx :)

Limited or no connectivity 90% of the time means that you have the wrong WEP key. Try removing the profile by going to wireless network properties>wireless tab>preferred networks. Add it back by viewing available networks by right clicking on wireless networks under network connections in the control panel. I would say about the rest of the time 8% it means a very noisy channel, despite if it says excellent. The other 2% of the time are corrupt drivers, infections, or the dhcp server in the router was deactivated.

What router do you have?

In short, I would make sure you have the right wep key. There are no "O's" only zeros. 0-9 and a-f only. Remove the profile under the control panel unless you're using some type of software, like Intel, Belkin, Netgear, Dell, linksys, wireless monitors/managers/utilities.

Are you sure that you are connecting to your router, not your neighbours? The problems you describe normally happen when the WEP key is incorrect, or when the router is set up to not allow incoming connections. So, go to your router, make sure you changed the SSID/Broadcast Name to something unique, then while you're at it CHANGE the Wep key to something simple. Then go back to your laptop and connect to that SSID with that Wep key. If it still won't work, go back to the router and ensure that none of the filters are enabled (each router is different, sorry, can't help you there). If still no go, your router or your computer might be defective, if you have a laptop you can test it at someone else's place or a wifi hotspot.

The way I ask and answer computer-related questions and answers [typically with questions,] I baffle most other Y! A users, but I'll try the best I can to answer your question. There should be an icon on the right side of your taskbar [that's the thing at the bottom of your screen.] Roll over to the Wireless Connection icon. It should be an icon that looks like two computer monitors [in your case, one with an exclamation mark over them.] Move your mouse over to this icon, right-click it and hit "repair." If that doesn't work, you might have to re-enter your router's password [provided that it has one.] Until then, you'll probably have to connect using a category 5e Ethernet wire, the standard Ethernet wire in most homes. I hope that I am of assistance.

there are no terms simpler than going into control panel. it is right off the start menu. if it cannot renew your IP address and doing a REPAIR on the WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER while in CONTROL PANEL cannot solve the problem. the problem may be hardware related which means its actually broke.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Network Connections.

if you cannot do this then you are not the user of this computer who is authorized to make changes.
