if you don't tell it to use the "entire drive", the install should just use the one partition you tell it to use. Linux mounts and unmounts drives to put the online (or offline), and is more of a carry over from removable media like floppies and removable hard drives. It's much like current USB sticks on Windows, you should be using the "Safely Remove Hardware" option for USB drives, which is technically an "unmount" command

Ubuntu is a distrubution (version) of a Linux working gadget. i might propose which you utilize a 2nd perplexing force, or examine up heavily on the set up technique until eventually now utilising this disc. I twin boot Ubuntu and abode windows and it fairly is huge for me, regardless of the undeniable fact that, It takes a at the same time as to benefit Linux in case you're new to it. the convenience is which you have a ton of application at your fingertips this is loose. commonly you may bypass to a "command" shell or anotherwords the terminal console and variety: sudo apt-get set up "something you desire" and it will acquire it and set up it for you. Linux is huge, yet you will desire to do the paintings to benefit it. additionally, there are various verisons of Ubuntu now, so be sure you attempt to verify what version you're setting up until eventually now you do set up by using fact there are themes with each and every merely as abode windows has its little quirks. solid success my pal....

Installing Ubuntu as a dual-boot with Windows without partitioning

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/wubi

You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application.

Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.

Boot in to windows insert the Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD and you will offered the option of installing inside windows which is where the Wubi installer comes in, you will be asked how many gigabytes you wish to allocate to Ubuntu (I recommend 8gb) then you set a password for your installation then click install and thats it.

Once Ubuntu is fully installed upon starting your PC you will be given a choice of which operating system you want to use Windows or Ubuntu

Just select the partion that isn't the recovery partion. You should make restore discs of that partion just incase your hard drive goes bad.
