Corporate VPN gateway is a device that is accessible from the Internet that enables client devices (PCs, smartphones or VPN phones) on the Internet to attach to the corporate network.

There are two predominate protocols used, IPSec or SSL on the clients, which are terminated on the gateway. These protocols "authenticate" the client and encrypt the data being sent so it can't be read by someone snooping the data on the public network.

The VPN Gateway can be software only which usually takes the form of something that runs on a virtual operating system (VMWare) or it can be a dedicated piece of hardware with it's corresponding gateway software. Example of a software only gateway is the Avaya VPN Gateway. Example of a hardware model is the Cisco ASA5500 (series).

VPN is a concept. It allows network traffic that would otherwise be unrouteable to be sent over an internet connection. The devices involved see each other as "local" even though they are not. That allows you to issue commands and run programs that otherwise not work over an internet connection.... you can log in locally, access printers and servers, etc.

A VPN can be delivered several ways, depending upon whether you are connecting a single host to a corporate subnet or are connecting two subnets. Single (point to point) connections usually involve a client on the remote end that connects to a server on the network.

Connecting multiple devices (or Macintoshes) to a VPN is done using a routing technique called L2TP (layer 2 tunneling protocol) that is implemented completely in the routers and is transparent to the hosts. They just see the remote subnet as an extension of thier own without any additional software on the hosts.

A corporate VPN gateway is the server from with the host meaning you connect to in order to access the corporate network. You really didn't need to open up another question you could have just added more details to your original question. Like the guy in the original question posted you need to consult with your local admins for your advice because they set up the network so they would have better advice than we would here on Yahoo Answers.

A virtual private network connection across the Internet is similar to a wide area network link between websites. From a user perspective, the extended network resources are accessed in the same way as resources available within the private network. VPNs allow employees to securely access their company's intranet while traveling outside the office. Similarly, VPNs securely connect geographically separated offices of an organization, creating one cohesive network. VPN technology is also used by Internet users to connect to proxy servers for the purpose of protecting personal identity and location. VPN technology enables you to send encrypted data over previously unencrypted networks. Besides providing you with private and secure Web browsing, VPNs such as Hotspot Shield VPN provide many other important benefits. Compared to a web proxy, VPN also offers much better security and privacy online.

SSL-based VPNs have been designed to eliminate the desire for complicated configurations on the consumer's workstation. regrettably, that replaced into previously the hazards of public WiFi networks and greater durable regulatory standards got here into being. attributable to WiFi, many assaults that have been difficult at the instant are incredibly hassle-free. specially, a guy-in-the-center attack can intercept SSL-encrypted site visitors, rendering SSL-based VPNs ineffective - regardless of if it incredibly is secure by using a common one-time password equipment. the guy-in-the-center can actual feed the only-time password into the SSL-based VPN in the alloted time. with the intention to thwart this attack, mutual authentication is needed. Mutual authentication potential that the consumer is established to the positioning and the positioning is established to the consumer. for the duration of this checklist, we are able to instruct the thank you to configure the WiKID solid Authentication equipment to grant solid, mutual authentication for SSL-Explorer.

I highly recommend making use of VPNPower to be able to unblock websites. I've been using them since four years. http://www.vpnpower.net
