I want to forward my ports so that i can increase my download speed on BitTorrent. But every time i run the port forwarding test it shows error. i tried to follow instructions given on portforwarding.com but i don't know which router i have. i am using my sony ericsson mobile to connect to internet and have airtel Rs.99 mobile office unlimited plan(dial up).
i tried to open ports through linksys in which ip address has to be written in address bar to proceed further. But it seems it requires static ip address and i have a dynamic one. i even tried to set a static ip address by changing ip protocol properties in network connection and writting it manually from start>run>cmd>ipconfig/all and disabling dhcp. i also have ip routing enabled but when i try to connect to internet it shows error until i change my ip protocol properties and dhcp settings to previous ones.
Plsssssssssss help me, i am trying to forward ports since 2 days and i think the problem lies in creating static ip address. (i am not firewall protected.) SOMEONE PLSSSSSS HEEEEELP MEEEE.....

Port forwarding won't help in this scenario, since you have a public IP address. My guess is that your ISP doesn't want anyone using BitTorrent and so the ISP is blocking the BitTorrent ports on the network itself.

This is a reasonable conclusion because it wouldn't take many people using phones to download BitTorrent to slow everything down to nothing. Mobile providers do not have much bandwidth.

A little more information would help diagnose the problem. It is possible that the ISP is throttling BitTorrent traffic....which may be in your agreement. Some ISPs do so in order to keep a bandwidth limit on high activity nodes. It is possible that there is just a configuration issue on your end though. When you say linksys what particular product are you referring to? a router, a switch, modem? When it asked for an address to forward did you try the network address? Was the static address you tried in the DHCP address pool? Did you check your default gateway and subnet mask?

Port forwarding can only work reliably for static IP addresses. The router has to have a fixed address to send to. (You can use DHCP, but have to re-config the router every time)

If you can set a LAN static IP (like 192.168.1.2) address, set that in your computers, along with the DNS entries, and try again. You cannot use a DHCP address as a static IP, you have to pick a static address that is NOT in the DHCP pool range. That range is defined in the router itself.
