cannot connect to my server 2003 domain?

Question

i have server 2003 and a domain controller and dns server installed, i installed this all then made myself an account, when i try and connect my other computer to the domain with the administrator account this message comes up:

The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "SIMPSON":
The specified server cannot perform the requested operation

i have got a new domain in a new forest so this should let me log on, any help with this matter would be greatfully appreciated,

That said, I would recommend you check out your DNS settings. DNS is VITAL to an Active Directory domain and improper settings can cause problems like this. Further, no computer name, username, OR domain name can share a name - for example, you named your domain "simpson" - fine, but now you cannot name a user simpson or another computer simpson. Doing so creates name resolution problems and can also contribute to these kinds of issues.

However one small tip - try renaming the PC first, rebooting and then rejoining the domain. I've seen that work a couple of time if the server gets snotty about computer accounts.

Was the computer originally connected to another domain? You need to join a workgroup & OK that all then join the new domain - there have always been problems like that.

it could be a ip address proplem.

on the computers tring to conect the domain name server ip address and the gatway should be servers ip address

or they could be in a different subnet or ip address range.
