I've had it for about 4 years now and up until about 4 months ago it could not detect any wireless networks, at all. I know that they are there because I can find them with my iPod. My house has wireless and it used to connect automatically. I know it isn't our modem because my iPod connects fine so it has to be the laptop. I read online that there are a lot of issues with HP and this is one of them but I searched and searched and still no results. Could anyone who knows please help me with this issue? I really need my laptop. Also, I have tried using the Ethernet cable from the modem itself, and still no luck. It works fine for our desktop computer though...Please someone help.

I would suggest that the driver software for your computer's network adapter is either out of date, or corrupted. I've had the same problem as you before, which was caused by my computer automatically updating the driver software to a version that, for some reason, did not work. The simple workaround was to uninstall this driver and reinstall the old version while I waited for a new, functioning version to be released.

If you don't know what network adapter your computer has, you can find out by going to the control panel and entering the Device Manager. If you open the section headed 'network adapters', you should find the piece of hardware you have installed (for example, on my computer it is an NVIDIA nForce networking controller). You will then need to go to the manufacturer's website on a different computer (one with internet) and download the latest driver software for your network adapter. Then just transfer it over to the computer that's having the problems and install it. If this doesn't fix the problem then you may need to download an earlier version of the driver software to install.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

EDIT: To transfer the file from one computer to the other without the internet you'll need to put it onto a USB drive (or something similar like a DVD) and then copy it from that onto the other computer.
