I have a 10/100 Mbps Cisco router, model #BEFSR41. I have two desktop PCs connected into this router. We just upgraded our Comcast service to their high-speed internet, however we are not getting any faster connectivity.

Using speakseay.com we tested the speeds. When we connect directly into the cable modem, our speeds are much faster than when we are plugged into the router. It appears that the router is not allowing the faster speeds.

Is there some configuration option I need to change on the router to adjust for the faster speeds?

Well since you have a router, it is splitting the connection. In other words if you have 8mbs download the router splits the connection for how many computers you have. You can try logging into the router and changing some of the settings, "Google your cisco router and bandwidth," but you wont see much improvement. If your only using two computers you should be able to use a switch. Most IPS allow up to 3 devise on per modem. Check with them.

Yes

First a few questions. What are the speed that you think that you should be getting? Where? At the public WAN IP address? At The WAN side of the CISCO router? At the NIC card of each PC?

Can you use IOS commands inside the router? Does the Router have IOS commands? Can you do a console connection to the router and look and see if it is IOS and how the router is set up?

CISCO routers have the ability to shape traffic to each port. I.e. " limit speed".

How to set up a CISCO router, I think it would be fun, but I just gave away the last of my CISCO 4000 series routers.

Good luck.

What your looking for in performance this type of router can not offer you... You will need to upgrade to a higher Linksys router or move to a small Cisco router that will offer you the ability to perform advanced configuration on your router... There is a second option for you also you can flash your router with a third party IOS/QOS and then have the same ability as the commercial devices... I do warn that this will void the warranty and if the software blows up you will be forced to buy a new one... So my advice is to do it right the first time... If you are looking for a device that will offer you performance and value look at something that has giga-bit switching as well as a SPI firewall if you are looking to stay with in the consumer market for your purchase. If you are open to purchasing a commercial device I would suggest Netgear a-lot of their consumer class products are used for small business also.

attempt this earlier calling Comcast Comcast makes use of the MAC identity of your pc to regulate and assign internet IP addresses. in the event that they do no longer see the MAC identity they assume they do no longer provide you an IP handle. Your router blocks your MAC identity, so as that's why once you place it in line, you are able to no longer connect. bypass into your router setup and choose "clone MAC identity" It makes each and all the version playstation - i've got used cable internet for greater suitable than 15 years. In that factor i've got been down lees than 3 days. that's the quickest service you may get for residential use and Comcast is a minimum of a real ISP, in assessment to a pair centers like Verizon, who hand you off to a third social gathering
