I am trying to " open ports" on my router so that i can host games on starcraft (battle.net) and other various games. when people try to join the games i create it tells them that my "latency" is too high. Some have told me to type in " 198.168.2.1 " in my internet explorer and it should bring up my ports but all it does it "google search" those numbers.. it doesn't go to any specific screen. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!! i have windows 7 and my router is a Qwest router model GT701 etc. thanks

Most routers default to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.100

Usually the default user name and password is Admin/Admin

What you really want to do is forward your ports. The best site for this is: http://portforward.com/

Your router instructions are here: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Qwest/GT701-WG/fpadvert.htm

Hi

So are you the person who pays the bills i wonder. The person who pays the bills may want this latency to continue due to the loss's of security when the restricted access to these ports is lifted.

as the removal of certain restrictions will open the flood gates to all sorts of viruses.

associations with these games is a common area for some of the worst viruses on the planet.

knowledge may be you downfall, these safeguards protect many from infiltration of some of the worst the internet can offer.

ignorance is bliss when you are uneducated about the dangers that exist.

First thing to do is open a command prompt - click start and in the search box type cmd. Hit enter and it will open up a black box waiting for your command. Type in ipconfig and hit enter. This will give you a list of all the network connections you have. Look for something that says IP address and Default Gateway. The gateway is the number they were referencing as '192.168.x.x'. Once you get that number (may be 192.168.1.1, 172.16.1.1 depending on the router) type that into internet explorer (or firefox/chrome) to get to your setup page. Ask another question when you get to that point.

Start -> Run -> cmd

ipconfig /all

Point your web browser at http:// and then place whatever is in the Default Gateway section afterward.

Once in the router configuration page, you can forward the appropriate ports from your WAN facing interface to a particular LAN client.
