The original Ethernet Architecture a) is described as a CSMA/CD protocol; b) it was based on a shared media environment; and c) it operates in half-duplex. Explain how these three issues are related, in the design of the Ethernet architecture.

csma/cd means it senses the access onto the phsyical line and detects collisions (carrier sense multiple acce/collision detection)



shared media is because more than one device uses the same line, as opposes to having a separate wire for each pc.



half-duplex is when you can communicate in both directions on a line but only one way at a time, like a 2-way cell phone (nextel) as opposed to a regular phone call where both people can talk at once. Since it can only go one way at a time, it has to detect when the line is in use and wait.
