Can devices on the "bad" switch do other "network" functions? (Print to network printers, access file servers, etc.)

Are the laptops you mention getting the correct DHCP info? Can they PING other parts of the network, including the Internet router?

Sometimes a DNS issue shows up as "No Internet Access." Can they PING other Internet websites or servers? (Try pinging: 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, 216.58.218.142 [these are all Google servers])

If you had to power-cycle the switch, could it be that the 'current config' wasn't saved and you're working on the -1 version? (Usually only something the people who make changes would know.)

VLAN issue?

If device that stopped working is damaged, you simply replace it with a similar one. I'm guessing it's a router. Bring it to the computer store to make sure you get the right one.

Another problem might be the internet account itself. The monthly fees may not be up to date.

Try a different switch. and tell the school you are not capable of doing the job.
