For your website you need a domain name (www.website-name.com), web hosting (to host the website online), and the website pages.

You can create your website using Ultimate Web Builder: http://www.redesigns.org/web-builder

Buy your domain name and web hosting from there too and then you get free installation and unlimited disk space/bandwidth.

The software features include: CMS (content management system), SEO (search engine optimization), photos management and photo gallery options, e-commerce, PayPal integration, ads management, mailing list application, integrated blog, forum, and more!

My preference is freehostia.com. For free, you get:

1. A database.

2. Space for your web pages.

3. PHP support (required for allowing your web page to interact with the database).

Among the many free web hosts that I've tried, Freehostia seems to be the fastest and most stable. Freehostia also has this thing called Elephante. What that allows you to do is automatically set up certain types of web sites. For example, if you want a blog, just click the Wordpress link in Elephante, and it automatically sets up Wordpress on your site for you. If you want an online store, just click the OScommerce button in Elephante, and it automatically sets up the "OScommerce" online store product for you. Of course, after you use Elephante, there are still some tweaking you need to do. For example, you'd need to select a theme for your Wordpress blog, or configure your online store by adding what products you're selling, and how much they cost.

EDIT: By the way, you can never EVER get a domain for free. They're about $70/year (with discounts for purchasing many years at once). You CAN get a free subdomain, such as mysite.freehostia.com.
