My mac will pick up multiple signals "bob" "linksys" "defualt" but when I try to connect, it says "connection timeout" like for the signal "lynksys" it had a good strong/stable connection a day ago.. but it won't connect anymore?.. why is this? (I'm getting wifi off of neighboring signals btw, I don't have a router)

You are trying things that have no particular reason why they should work. Why should some system called "bob" provide you with Internet access? There is no reason it should work.

If I go to the airport because I know my mother is arriving on a plane, it's not surprising that I meet her at the airport. What you are doing is going to random airports and random times and waiting around hoping your mother will stroll by. Then, when she doesn't, you're surprised.

There is no reason this should work. It doesn't work all the time because there is no reason it should work.

All you ought to do is to enable your Wifi receiver then attempt to seek for the attainable Wifi spots which you would be able to acquire. Unsecure connections will provide help to to connect yet secured ones will require you a WEP or PASSWORD.

Sometimes, the owner of the connection could temporarily time out the connection. If not back soon....owner probably removed the connection from use.
