OK I've got a problem. Yesterday i talked to a geek squad agent at best buy about a problem with my asus laptop. It keeps randomly losing connection for 5 seconds and connecting again, which is just enough time to disconnect me from online games like WoW. He said I should probably update the drivers. I went to the device manager and right clicked IntelĀ® WiFi Link 5100 AGN and clicked update drivers. It updated them in a few minutes. Then, however my laptop wouldn't connect at all to the internet. When i ran windows diagnostics, it said that my wireless cabability wasn't turned on. It was. I thought maybe those drivers needed to be updated too, but i can't find the device. Instead i downgraded the WiFi drivers back to what they were, but i still can't connect. It must be something that i did, but does anyone know how to turn the wireless capability on from inside the computer to make sure it isn't the switch. If anyone has a solutions that are a bit complicated, I'd prefer step by step directions. I have windows 7.

I had this problem recently with my asus, and I tried multiple different things, one of which worked. As I don't know which it was, I shall endeavour to list all below:

1.Re-install the drivers for the wireless card (should be listed on the Asus support site).

2. Connect to your network via ethernet cable and search for new hardware.

3.Once the card is recognised, make sure it running on the same channel as your router (I'd suggest that this was your original problem, your symptoms seem to point to that).

4. If the above didn't work, re-install your OS (Windows 7 in your case) and see what happens from there. Don't forget to back up your data though.

I hope this helps

If you are connected to a Wireless router, make sure the Channel is switched to Channel 11. If you still cannot connect, check if your router is connected to the internet by checking if the right cables are in the right places and check if it is plugged in correctly in a socket. If it still is having problems, check if your fire wall is on/off. If it is on, you may need to turn it off. If you are still having problems, check if you are too far from the router. You may need to be close. Also don't get too close. Check if the wirless signal is getting inturrupted by any swort of metals, magnets or other wirless signals trying to connect at the same time. It may mess up your connection. If it still doesn't work, try turning off your router for 30 seconds. Unplug all the cables, then plug them in again. Then turn it back on. Try to keep the router up on high elevation. Keep it away from Hot or cold temperatures. If it still does not work, the internet your router mabe connected to is a slow connection. If it is you may need ro get a different internet company. (I would get Verizon Fios.) If absolutley nothing works you will need a professional to come over and fix your internet. (Or a technitian)
