Question:
Any way to connect computer and transfer data?

I've recently come across a problem with my own computer that may require either a factory restore or a transfer of data (music, pictures, text files, et cetera) to another computer entirely.

Now, I have no way to back up the data on a CD-rom or floppy disk since 1. the CD drive won't read or recognize any CDs (I've been looking for a way to fix this, to no avail so far), so burning and transferring the data that way is out, and 2. there's far too much to transfer for a floppy disk to be able to hold, I think.

So, I'd just like to ask, is there any way to connect two computers and transfer data from one to another? I hope what I mean has been made as clear as I can get it. I don't want to risk losing any of the music or pictures or text documents I have. If it's something as simple as making a zip or rar archive (or two, or three, or more) of all the files and sending it from one computer to the other via AIM, or connecting the two computers via... say... a cable or something of the sort - if doing that would be possible - then I'm all ears.

I've provided all the details I can think are necessary at the moment.

first get a switch. which connects computer between computer.

2. then if you are using windows xp,2000. create a domian in that one.

3. connect lan cable to the router from both computers

4. share a folder or in the computer which you want to send the data.

5. access from the new computer and get all data to your new computer.

Well, you could choose one of the ten billion methods of transferring data between computers...

USB flash drive

External hard drive (USB/Firewire/eSATA)

Crossover cable

Patch cable/WiFi + hub/switch/router (ie. a LAN)

Adhoc wireless

FTP server

Web storage service

External optical drive (CD/DVD/BD)

Remove the hard drive from PC 1 and plug in as a slave into PC 2

Email

IM transfer

Just to name a few...

i think once you say "circulate archives" you purely recommend documents. No community: the two desktops will choose a NIC (ethernet port) and you apart from mght will choose a crossover cable. A crossover cable is an analogous component as a typical ethernet cable different than 2 wires are flipped. as quickly as you have that plugged in, you would be able to desire to statically assign IP addresses to the two desktops. To assign a static IP handle, circulate into community Connections (assuming this would be a abode windows setup) and appropriate click on community section Connection. Hit "residences". interior the checklist, locate TCP/IP and hit residences. you could assign IP addresses right here. i could assign one comptuer 192.168.0.a million and the different 192.168.0.2. community: you will desire to be waiting to circulate. you additionally can would desire to turn on report and Print Sharing. interior the residences communication for community section Connection, you will desire to confirm a examine next to shopper for Microsoft Networks and a examine next to report and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks. otherwise, you could appropriate click on any folder (in XP) and hit "Sharing and risk-free practices..." then hit "share this folder". -Dan
