The easiest way (which is a little expensive) is to buy 2 VPN capable Routers, with statics public IP addressed on both ends.... with those setup it will be like both computers are networked at the same location

Computers are a THING -- therefore they were designed with a purpose in mind. What PURPOSE are you planning on using this computer for? That will answer your question as to which is better. Windows 2003 CAN be used as a desktop operating system, but it will be more costly and have compatibility issues Windows XP is not a good SERVER OS because it doesn't support all the services/roles that Server 2003 does AND can only accept 5 simultaneous connections to it. So for example, if you shared a folder, only 5 users could access it at the same time. Windows XP can NOT be Domain Controller DHCP server WDS server WSUS server VPN server DNS server To name a few Also Windows XP HOME can not be a member of a Domain. You CAN play games on Windows 2003 and install DirectX etc. -- but you may run into problems with some drivers/games throwing up an error message indicating that they don't support that OS. Some HOME anti-virus programs won't install on Windows Server 2003 and will require you to buy their "Enterprise" version As for the system requirements -- They are basically the same. Windows Server 2003 can run on some SLOWER machines then XP, but not well. So if you have an OLD computer - maybe 1GHz and 256MB RAM AND all you want to do is access the internet from it.. then Windows Server 2003 might be better from a hardware perspective, BUT from a COST perspective.. it will cost you more. But otherwise, if the computer can run XP, it can run 2003 not necessarily the other way around. As for the just released Windows Server 2008 -- assume if the PC can run VISTA, then it can run Server 2008.
