Cant connect LAN to PS4?

So I just recently moved into a new place two months ago and got wifi, and it came with an ethernet cable and all of that so it’s brand new.
I’ve never done this before so I don’t know if I connect the cable to the router or modem, but I was guessing router.
Anyway, having it connected to my PS4 on one end, I had it to my router on the other end.
When I went to my internet settings for LAN it said to connect the LAN Cable to PS4. I don’t know which end this was acting on, cause when putting the cable into my playstation, I heard the click. I heard the click for both ends. So I just tried every opening for the ethernet cable there was, on my router and my modem. But none of it mattered cause it still said “Connect LAN Cable to PS4”
It’s not a faulty cable, though I read some light up to see if it’s working? I don’t know if that’s the case for every single LAN cable, but mine doesn’t that I know of. I’m also not aware of what CAT it’s from but I know they wouldn’t give me an outdated one. I tried reading online any way to know or to fix it, but I got nothing. Can anyone help out?

The cat rating is usually printed on the cable itself.  Bulk ordered cables often do not have the rating.

So you plugged it into the LAN side of your router and the router was turned on?

The only way the any devices "sees" the other end if it senses a signal, the port is powered and on. (It does not matter that the router is connected or not, we are just talking connectivity). Most switch's port light will light up if it sees a valid device on the other end.

Secondly, hold the cable ends so both sides are orientated together, side by side.

You should be able to see the wiring marking via the clear terminator ends.  They wires are solid or solid with a white stripe.  Make sure when you hold them, that all the colors/wires correspond between the two connectors.  Mine are:

white/green,green,orange/white,blue,blue/white,orange,brown/white,brown.

As long as the other side has the same order, the cable is straight through and useable.  If not, it is not a straight through cable and will not work.

I'm not entirely sure your network is setup. If you're renting the modem from your ISP, they typically provide you with a gateway, which is a modem, router, and Wi-Fi access point in one unit. In this case, you just plug your PS4 into any of the 4 LAN ports. However, if you have a modem and router separately, you must plug your router's WAN port (sometimes labeled as "Internet" in some routers) into the modem's single Ethernet port.

You could technically plug your PS4 directly into the modem and go online, but you would be exposing your PS4 to the public Internet which isn't a good thing to do. The router at least provides some protection from the outside Internet.

So the problem appears to be between the connection of your PS4 to the Internet. Have you verified that the cable works? Do you have a laptop or desktop you can plug it into? Ethernet cables can go bad, but its not always common. I don't believe the PS4 has any Ethernet flashing lights on the back, but routers usually do. Can you try an other LAN cable?

Plug the HDMI cable into the thermal router and make sure the ventilation system is well greased, account for any discrepencies in the disk reader and usb ports and clean out all dust/dirt/rodent feces that may have entered the machine
