Question:
Can I run a wireless n/work thru an ADSL gateway without a PC cabled via ethernet? If so, how is it config'd?

I have to move the BT broadband socket that is adjacent to my desktop PC, but I can't move either of my 2 networked desktops. The Linksys ADSL gateway is currently by my PC so my PC is connected via ethernet cable into the gateway as per the setup instructions. I want to move the gateway next to the main BT socket which is remote from both PC's. Can my two PC's connect wirelessly to the gateway? Everything I've read suggests that one PC has to be wired to the gateway via ethernet - is this true?

No, all PCs connecting to a wireless router can be wireless. But you need to connect by cable to do the first set up. After that it can be wireless.

Do not forget to set up security (WPA) on the wireless side otherwise you will open to invasion by any passer-by.

You don't need to connect any PC to gateway.

You need get 2 wireless adapters for each of PC and a wireless router (Access Point)

Connect router to your ADSL modem and enable wireless on router, enable DHCP if needed.

Set up wireless adapter for each of PC , set "IP automatically obtain" if you enable DHCP.

If you use static IP, don't forget to set IP of router as Gateway for each PC.

Setup passcode for each end ---Router and PC accordingly

Done.

That ususally is the case since once PC needs to act as a controller.
