A user is having trouble sending mail through his mail client. He is not having any computer or networking issues. What should he check first?
SMTP settings
IMAP or POP settings
Disk fragmentation
Memory usage

Do your own homework!
The answer is SMTP settings.
ISPs filter SMTP to prevent the rampant spread of viruses / mail bombs / etc.
With most ISPs you can only use their SMTP server when on their connection. If you try using another, the request will be blocked.

Has he ever been able to send email through this client? the problem is most likely his settings... is he using outlook?
make sure he is using the right pop2 and smtp settings. make sure that he chooses additional settings and checks the box for my server requires authentication.

check for the correct id and password, then the correct POP3 and SMTP server names
this is all that is required for email
