Question:
Two clients on same router?

Hello everyone,

My brother and me r both connected to same router, he is using cable and I am connected wireless to the router.

Whatever he does, even idling, my wireless network will lose its access point and I'll have no access to the internet (diagnostics repairs it). But every few mins getting disconnects kinda sucks. While his wired network works fine.

Is there any possibility to have a stable connection with two clients on same router for wireless connected user?

If u need additional info, tell me.

Thanks in advance.

Nothing special needs to be done to have both wired and wireless connections simultaneously.

When you lose the connection do you lose the actual wireless signal (i.e no bars) or did you lose your IP address (used command prompt command "ipconfig" to determine IP address)?

First thing I'd suggest is to look at how the DHCP is configured on the router. Could be when your brothers computer comes online the DHCP server in the router assigns him the same IP address you are using, which causes an IP conflict.......just a guess.

Try this - when your brother isn't online, check your IP address, write down. When your brother comes online and you do the repair connection thing, did you get a new IP address?

Any chance your brother is doing something to mess with you?

This may be your problem: "We both have the same internal and external IP address...."

Each of you needs a unique private LAN (internal) IP address. That normally should not happen if automatically getting an IP address from the router (DHCP). But if the 2 computers were on independently at different times and the DHCP lease expired, it is possible that your computer remembers the same IP as your brother's IP. Normally DHCP should then assign one of the computers a different IP, but if for some reason it does not, one of you may need to manually "renew" (or release and then renew) your IP to get a different one.

If you both play the same on-line game that requires any ports forwarded in, it is possible that may not work. But I am not a big gamer, so I do not know if there are any games that still need ports forwarded.

Running a game "server" is a different story. A game server would likely require port forwarding for anyone outside of the LAN to access it via your public IP. But locally from the same LAN, you would likely need to access it through its LAN IP, because many routers do not to loopback (LAN2LAN via public WAN IP).

the fact he is wired probably has nothing to do with your connection, have you tried switching the channel you use for wifi. you can do a quick site survey with android app and try another.
