Im trying to learn SQL 2008 while at work. I am on a LAN and I know nothing of SQL. Im afraid to install it on my computer if it will have an effect on the rest of the network (we have another sql server in use and i dont want them to conflict). I have access to the server so would it be safe to create a database on it then delete it?

When you are talking about installing it, are you installing the Server, or just the Tools? You will need the tools even if you are using a new database on the corporate SQL server.

Installing a server on your own computer won't have any effect on the LAN. The main thing to be concerned with is to make sure you don't leave the default System Administrator (SA) password blank.

If you want to create a new database on the corporate SQL Server, you would probably be best off asking the server administrator to create it and give you the appropriate permissions.

Installing a second instance on the same server as the first is unlikely to affect the first, let alone doing so on your personal machine that's merely connected to the LAN.

no longer till you're working something that demands it. perhaps a information superhighway server, or some utility that makes use of/used it? it fairly is not a bad element its basically a unfastened database server. bypass into start up - run sort: centers.msc discover MySQL, appropriate click it and click residences, then replace automatic to disable, and stop the service. If some utility that demands it complains, turn it back to automatic and start up it back.
