Question:
Minecraft Help. Failed to bind to port.?

So, I've had a server running 24/7 for me and my brother in the same household.

Just recently we lost our power and my computer shut off while the server was running. Now every time I try and run it, it gives me this:

[INFO] Starting minecraft server version 1.6.2
[INFO] Loading properties
[INFO] Default game type: SURVIVAL
[INFO] Generating keypair
[INFO] Starting Minecraft server on (computer ip and port)
[WARNING] **** FAILED TO BIND TO PORT!
[WARNING] The exception was: java.net.BindException: Cannot assign requested address: JVM_Bind
[WARNING] Perhaps a server is already running on that port?

Some of you may be thinking "get arid of the ip in "server-ip:" in server settings. However it ran fine with the IP there before, and without it my brother can't connect.

And as a final note. No, I don't want to run an LAN SSP.

if you have it in server settings, your making it so only people on the router can join, which is what you want. so there are 2 things you can do. 1. you can check on the router information website that it is still working, in game and application sharing. if not add a new application called minecraft, with the ports 25565. then assign you computer to minecraft on the site. 2. you can make static ip, by going to your network settings, ip4, then put in the information by typing in cmd 'ipconfig'. and using that information. if these don't work or your don't understand how to do it, reply/message me.

It could be that the port is already open, so when it tries binding the server onto the port to try and listen for new connections, it doesn't work.

Try restarting your computer (sometimes works) also restarting your Modem. Or you can try forwarding your server to port 25567.

It might be because you closed the server without stopping it. try force quitting in activity monitor, or system monitor.
