I have a home network with wireless computers made to transfer files between each other. The fastest file transfer speed I could get is ~1 MBPS. However when I do an internet speedtest on a wireless computer, I get ~10MBPS. Is there a way to make my wireless transfers faster? I have all wireless G devices, so none of them are slow because of being wireless B. And their signal strength is excellent.

Transferring files and speed test are two different animals. Put it like this, if the speed test involved sending a file then I bet it will come up as ~1 MBPS. Speed test uses very little data. Put it like this, a cheetah can top out at 70 MPH with no restrictions. Strap a 10 lb brick on it's back then it won't be as fast.

Just use a pen drive or send them as emails to an account.

PS...~1 MBPS ain't bad. 60 MB per minute. That's like 15 MP3's a minute.

File transfers are usually in bytes/sec, not bits. Most speed tests are in bits/sec

8 bits= 1 byte

So, 10mbps speedtest would means about 1.1mBytes/sec download - I know because I have 10mbps download speed too....

examine if there are different WLANS close by (neighbours), if it extremely is the case and that they use the comparable frequency this may well be the priority. The default placing of consumer-friendly routers frequently use the comparable frequencies.
