My friend and I have 2GB of compressed video data that we need to send to a friend for editing. What would be the fastest method to send the files to another cable modem?

The only way is via email, unless you or your friend has remote administration rights on the other's computer and just transfers the files.

get a 2 GB USB Flash drive and put the files on that, and take it to your friend's house if he(she) is in town. They are really cheap now! I saw a 6 GB one for less than $100 and I think a 2GB one would be around $25 or less. If they are compressed video files, running them through another compression program like Win-Zip would probably not help a lot other than to ensure that the files stay together. If your friend is out of town, it's either US Mail or bite the bullet and spend the on-line time.

You need solve few stuff to put this to work...

First....you must to know that you have a slow speed to upload data rather than download data. so...with the cable service your upload will be slow...no matter the speed of you friend...ok?

2.- you need a service to track your ip address. I recomend no-ip.com or dynu.com....because are free....of coarse!

3.-you need install a FTP server like Filezila (server)...please when you install the product...READ the little manual to learn how to acctivate the service, create users and permitions...it is very easy...due the files are so big....I recomend to your friend to install Filezila CLIENT...that is beacuse if you interrup the transfer you can recover it without loose the transfered data before the interruption.

4.- you need to "map" the TCP port 21 in your router to your computer....maybe you will need help with that...but just search "how to map a tcp port" to get the idea...and try!

Note:

Maybe your internet service is so slow for those files...maybe the postal service can deliver few DVD in priority!

Setup a FTP site on the one of the machines and then get a software like CuteFTP and transfer the data over to your friend.

Keep in mind you will want to put some secuity in place if you plan to leave the site up. Or have your friend turn it off when you complete the transfer. (Optional)

Do a search on Windows Firewall FTP securing.

The other thing you could do. It's not as sexy but just get a 4GIG memory stick copy the data and send it to your friend. Just keep sending the stick back and forth. It's not "COOL" but it will work.

Good Luck

You could try using Limewire, a file sharing program. You and your friend will need to sign up for an account and once you look up each other's username, you can send it to each other quickly and easily. Make sure when setting up that you set it so that it doesnt automatically search for files to share otherwise random files may go out to random strangers. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

There is a program called pando which will send large attachments for free. I am not sure what the limitations are but try and take a look at their website:
