Hi There,

The DSL modem can be moved and connected to any telephone jack in your home (using a telephone extension cable....you can use the same one you have now or a longer extension if needed). The telephone cable is an RJ-11 type

The cable from the DSL modem to the computer however is an ethernet patch cable (cat5, cat 5e or cat 6) and is slightly larger like you mentioned. The jack is an RJ-45 designation and should not even plug into a telephone wall jack.

A regular telephone cable will not work between the modem and computer. It should not even "plug in".

In short; you can use a regular telephone extension cable between the telephone wall jack and the DSL modem. If you have any doubt just plug in your telephone extension cable to the wall jack and then into your telephone. If the telephone works OK it will work with your DSL modem.

Hope this helps,

Al
