How can I get my university's proxy server to work with all applications?

In my college accommodation, to connect to the Internet in a browser you have to go through a PAC, which then asks you for a username and password. It works fine, but only in a browser/some applications. Other applications simply don't load or give me a 407 (proxy authentication required) error code.
How do I overcome this?

Try using http://www.sshtunnel.net

Option 1. Talk to the Network Administrator and request that he installs those software for you.

Option 2. Request that the Network Administrator to give access passwords with "ELEVATED" privileges that will allow you to install software.

Option 3. If you were running Win XP I would recommend that you bypass Network Login and simply use local Workstation log in - sometimes you may find out that the local user has more privileges.

The Default username is normalliy "Administrator" and most Network Administrators like to use "admin" or "administrator" as passwords :)

Good luck
