Put comcast internet on new computer?

I currently have comcast high-speed internet on an old computer and am buying a new one. I want to switch the connection to my new computer to access the internet. Can I just put the ethernet cord onto my new computer, or do I have to do some other stuff? I don't have any ISP software, so do I have to call comcast in order for them to install it on to my computer? I would prefer to do it myself if it's possible.

I don't have an answer, just wanted to chime in and say I'm having the same problem with my new laptop. I've called comcast and they were no help. They simply said "Your modem looks good. It should work." The woman told me to shut the modem down completely and turn off my computer. Keep the modem off for two minutes and then plug the power back in. Once it's up again, turn the computer back on. This didn't help me. I also tried installing the disc they sent when I got comcast internet on my old computer, but the disc won't install unless the computer can detect the internet connection, which it can't. Sigh. What to do, what to do!? I hope someone answers this question and helps us out!

Unplug the power to your Comcast box. Plug in the network cable to your new computer. Turn on the Comcast modem and then your new Computer. You should be good to go now. You need to power down the modem, so it gets the MAC address off the new Computer, otherwise it may not work. Or you could get a router and connect both computers.
