Here is what I would do, you can do this to if you have a spare computer. Take the hard drive out of your infected computer, set the jumper pins on the back of it as a slave and then add it to your spare PC as a slave drive. The viruses will not infect the spare PC unless you execute the files on the drive. That being said, run a couple virus scans and remove the viruses while it is a slave drive. Once it is cleaned, pull the hard drive out set it back to master and then put it back in your primary PC. If you dont have a spare PC you can install AVG Free antivirus, run scans and remove viruses that way. Then uninstall AVG and install Avast Free, run some virus scans with Avast and see what that does. If your PC is still screwed up after that then you may want to consider reformatting your entire drive and installing a clean version of Windows. But there is no sense in purchasing Norton to solve a problem that may very well likely not be able to get fixed unless you format

dont use norton it is a resource hog and misses most viruses

may i suggest

AVG anti-rootkit, avg free, avast free,

kaspersky (paid but very good)

you may need to backup your mums files and do a clean install to fully remove the virus

by clean install i mean reformat the hard disk
