Hi, I have a WRT160Nv3 Lynksys Router and my Nat is set to moderate and I am trying to open it to play on Xbox Live. However I am trying to access my router page but the username and password I put in it does not accept. I put Admin in the username but and password in the password box but it does not take. I don't have the manual for it so I can't look it up, can anyone tell me what it might be?

What you tried for user name and password is the default setting. It must have been changed during set up. Did you get it from your Internet service provider, or did someone else set it up for you ?

Contact them, it is worth the effort.

Maybe it is stored in the PC that was used to configure the Linksys.

If the user name and password is still unknown, there is no need to buy a new one, you can reset the Linksys and start the configuration anew.

You can find the user guide and quick installation manual on http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT160N select hardware version 3

You need to be certain of where the issue is. Open a command console. (Start > Run > CMD > Open) First type IPCONFIG It should respond with information about your IP, your default gateway and your subnet mask. With this information you will type "ping" followed by the number beside default gateway... Likely 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1 (ping 192.168.0.1) It will either reply host unreachable, or with a response time. This tells you whether or not you have a connection with the router from your laptop. If you don't show a default gateway and your IP is 169.254.##.## that's also an indicator that you have no connection to the router. If this is the case then type IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS (enter) netsh winsock reset (enter) and reboot the computer in question. Also when "rebooting" your router I suggest you actually unplug it's AC power for not less than one minute. This allows the router to wipe it's stored information about your computers forcing it to assign address and connect to the internet with a clean slate. If your computer has no problem connecting with the router when using the ping and ipconfig commands then it suggests the problem lies between the router and the modem. Try unplugging the modem as stated to do with your router. If you have logging turned on in the administrative tab in the Linksys router you may also wish to log onto the router through an internet browser (Just put the ip in the address bar, password and user usually admin/admin.) and read the log It may let you know what's going on. There is more information that would be helpful you can get by typing IPCONFIG /ALL which will let you know if you're getting your address from a DHCP Server (The router) or from APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing, which basically means you couldn't contact the router.) or if the Address is statically assigned. (Someone has set it on the card in your Network Connections folder) Which requires setting your network card back to automatic IP Assignment then. (In the device properties for your network card: Control Panel > Network Connections > Right Click on LAN connection, select properties > highlight TCP/IP Settings > click on properties > Set button to Obtain IP Address automatically.)

may be time to reset the router. in that case, do a 30/30/30 reset, it's sure to reset the router no matter the model, whether you have a manual or not. (2nd link)

it's been a while since I used linksys firmware on a linksys router. I use dd-wrt ( http://dd-wrt.com ) now. are you sure the password used any caps?

if I remember right, you leave the username blank.

btw, if you switch to dd-wrt, you specify both a username and a password.

your router happens to be dd-wrt capable (but not capable of mega). but be forewarned, you do a 30/30/30 reset before and after dd-wrt flashing, and configuration takes some pre-study and getting used to (it's enterprise grade), but once you have it set up, it's great. IF you ever decide to sell it, you can sell it to a business such as a restaurant for them to use as a hotspot if your model of firmware supports that feature.

Unplug the power to the router and modem. First plug in the modem and wait for it to come back online. Give it a minute to make sure. Then plug in the router. Modem has to be online first, then router can be plugged in. This should solve the problem. If not then maybe the modem is offline. In which case call your ISP.

In your address bar type in 192.168.5.1 when it opens <> skip the user name <> for the password type in admin. That will take you to the diagnostics page.
