no... when you watch a video online, you are not downloading anything.

Your not downloading anything. You are just watching movies via the youtube servers. The only thing that is being saved on the computer is the cookies and temp internet files. Simply clearing the history and deleting temp net files will clear them out.

Sounds like uncle is being a lil anal about you using the computer.

The movies are streaming! You don't even have to DL a video player or codec code to watch them.

Actually, it IS a form of downloading. It's not the kind that you save the file onto your hard drive. What happens is that the information is sent in a download "STREAM" to your computer which then decodes it and uses that appropriate software to play it.

It wouldn't surprise me if you were using as much as 150KB/Sec of bandwidth while watching videos. Just for a frame of reference, a 56K modem's top download speed is under 7.0KB/Sec.

when u watch something on youtube, no it is not downloading. u get the norm cookies and temp internet files; but the video itself is not stored. is there anyone else using the computer; maybe they are downloading? does ur uncle not know how to use computer very well? maybe he is accidently downloading something without his knowledge...

Technically speaking, going to any website and viewing any content means that page/content (In your cause video) has been locally cached to the computer. This is only technically speaking though, apart from that its not downloading - and if He has been too ONE website, than thats also technically downloading, so you can counter accuse.

a lot of these people are incorrect... yes it is downloading, to view this webpage your computer had to download the information so you could see it... Everytime you see something on the internet your computer downloaded the information to see it... What you are doing is actually a form of downloading called streaming... Hes probably just mad that you are slowing down the internet on his computer, just make sure you tell him that you are not actually saving things from the internet on the hard drive and your just viewing things...

Does your uncle think you are getting viruses from watching videos?

Why does he think you are downloading anything?
?

modern virus geeks can build viruses that cause a computer to "secretly" download all kinds of stuff. So you might have picked up a virus that instructs your computer to download something off the web without informing you.

no. youtube isn't downloading. some computers may take time to bring up a video on youtube, but it isn't downloading.

It's not downloading.

Just explain to him calmly (try not to lose your cool!) that it's just watching. If you're confident there's nothing downloaded, offer him the computer so he can see for himself.

=] Good luck!

'2nd time around' is wrong, Youtube does not download files into your temp directory. Youtube is STREAMING, not downloading.
