How do I use VNC servers?

Question

Me and my cousin live far away from each other, and we wanted to use a VNC server (We tried RealVNC) so that we can, pretty much, watch a movie together (The movie is on his computer). So we tried for hours trying to get RealVNC to work.

We're not computer geniuses, so can anyone explain how do we get it to work where it's password protected, and that we both can see, and control each others computer screen from across the world?

(Oh and I've googled everything, it's hard to find a decent tutorial)

Unfortunately you won't be able to watch a movie using it, it's not designed for such high bandwidth application.



If you want to watch a movie together, why not use MSN to have a voice conversation, both rent the same movie and start it at the same time?;)

You cant watch movie on vnc, it's possible but the image will be very slow, and it's not delivery the video in a "real-time".



if you want to control other Pc, then you need the Pc who you want to control install VNC server, the server has to set password to something that you have to know, then you have to use VNC viewer with the password that you know from the server.



beside, you need to know the server ip so that you can access his PC



tell the person on the VNC server side go on http://whatismyip.com/ then let you know what is his IP, then run vnc viewer, put the ip in, the password dialog box will appear anf follow the step above.



there are problems that you might have is firewall, make sure you turn off the firewall both sides (server and yours).

if you are using router, you have to enable DMZ to your PC and the same as the VNC server Pc.



if you dont know how to do this, do google how to set DMZ in the router.

i was using it before bt now it doesnt work... i would still give u the tip for it 2 work

1. know ur ip address of the pc u wana operate from ur computer. ( u can search yahoo for how 2 know your ip)

2. then turn off both the firewalls

3. in the pc where u wana surf the other pc, rt click on the taskbar switch in user mode and add the ip add

4.the other person must keep a passwrd in the settings

5. enter that pass in ur pc n wolla.. u can see the other's desktop
