I Tried 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 but it could not take me to its console. I even had to reset my NIC I.P to 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.1.2 respectively so it could be on the same 'LAN' with the switch but it just didn't work. Please what's the way out? Could it be the switch is bad? ( I doubt anyway, cos' the Link, FDX and Mbps Leds are blinking.) How about the cable? I used a CAT 5e Crossover. Please assist me resolve this.

Bro, sorry but the D-Link web site indicates that this is an unmanaged switch.

http://www.d-link.com/products/?pid=DGS-1016D

"This 16-Port Unmanaged Gigabit switch features D-Link Green™ eco-friendly technology, which reduces power consumption and operating costs.

You would not need a crossover cable for this. That could be your problem. You need a "Straight through" Cat5 cable if you are plugging your computer into your switch.

Also set your computer to get IP automatically so it gets IP from router. Then goto the command line (start/run/CMD) and type in IPCONFIG

Whatever it says your default gateway is, that is your router IP address.
